I've long been reading blogs - they are often the output of small indie communities of bloggers that either handmake or sell things and take nice photos of their daily activities such as going to the market or eating a pastry with coffee (they love photos of things with bites out of them!) or taking photos of their outfits. Perhaps this is very biased towards girl-blogs! While they make some money from selling totes and prints etc, I suspect the majority of their income is from ad revenue - especially when they have a big readership. But even then - it all seems carefully unattached to any particular organisation.
How blogs could be used in a work capacity has been mentioned by the Anonymous Librarian - and to be honest I'm not sure how neatly they fit into that context when they seem to be diary-based. Which is not to say they dont - our own blog is a great resource for students and keeps them updated on current news, (and stops our website from being static and unchanging). Casting around for future content for this blog, I thought I might stick in a few book/movie reviews as I read/watch them to give it a personal but work-related feel. So possibly for a library you could have a blog with arts and cultural reviews on stuff around Dublin? As Dewey has already kind of started doing. Nothing groundbreaking here, just continuing the ball rolling!

Uninteresting background alert!
Being new to this, I'm struggling a bit with the design and layout. The background templates seem limited but it's not like my content needs all the space I'm giving it - I'd like a colourful background but haven't found one I liked. I wonder can we add our own photos/pictures scavenged from the web? to be continued...
Hello!
Phew! Well picking a blog name proved harder than expected - lots of the handles i might have liked were taken, some were too girly, and others too smirky-reference-to-obscure-book/film/other thing...so i finally went with this one, mostly out of desperation. Having said that I do like that it implies a place, and ok, it is a reference to a film (but not smirky, I hope?) - it's the town in the movie Dead Man that Johnny Depp gets shot in. Following that spoiler, if you havent seen it I highly recommend you rent it. According to IMDB it's a drama/fantasy/western: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112817/
Having had great difficulty choosing a name, I can now sympathise much more readily with my sister who is trying to name babies. I think I'll leave the decorating untill tomorrow...
