First and foremost I must point out that the title for this post isn't mine; it was a tweet I found (by @davebarbush)on the TED Blog along with this great video of a TED talk given by Eli Pariser about the tailoring of your internet searches and how what you might think is an open book is in fact filtered to the nth degree. If you have a spare 9 minutes it'll tell you how algorithms are the new librarians/journalists! Enlightens and entertains in one go.
Thanks for sharing that, web filtering is such a minefield, and he explains it so well, wish I'd had lecturers like him in college :)

ReplyDeleteIt's quite scary when you think about it - most of the time you have no idea that filtering like this is going on! And on a different tack - I love TED, watched Louie Schwartberg, Hidden Beauty of Pollination earlier - watch it in full screen - absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeletethis is brill pitseleh...tried to watch the louie schwatberg one anonymous librarian, but there were far too many clips of wasps/bees for my liking...still traumatised just thinking about it...i love the TED talks too though...there's a cool one on data visualisation by david mccandless...
